We are currently seeking Laundry Aide for temporary part time and Housekeeping Aide for temporary part time for our location in Ottawa, Ontario.

LAUNDRY AIDE.

ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE:

Under the direction of the environmental services supervisor, responsible for performing laundry department tasks in an efficient and co-operative manner, with due consideration for the needs and comforts of the residents.

BACKGROUND/QUALIFICATIONS

Must be able to follow oral and written instructions in the English language. Needs to be able to perform heavy lifting tasks and have visual acuity for inspecting linens. Some experience in an institutional laundry department is desirable.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collects soiled linens and personal clothing as outlined in the facility's policy and procedures. Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities.
  • Sorts according to colour and type and pre-treats stains as required.
  • Loads and unloads washers and dryers ensuring that proper settings are used for each type of bad and that chemical supplies are at an appropriate level.
  • Inspects soiled linens or personal laundry to determine types of repairs needed. Mends rips, tears, and thin spots in curtain, bed and table linens, and repairs personal clothing for residents on the personal clothing service. Sets aside linen not repairable for salvage use, and records same.
  • Folds, segregates and stacks linens and residents' personal clothing. Ironing is done only if necessary.
  • Assemblies carts with required quantity of, bed linens and towels and delivers to linen storage closets on each floor.
  • Returns laundered clothing to the units, ensuring that each article is properly marked with name and room number.
  • Identifies all newly received linens with facility’s name, date of circulation, and records same.
  • Ensures that laundry room, linen closets and all equipment and carts are kept in a clean, safe, and sanitary condition.
  • Ensures that housekeeping aides have enough clean dry mop heads and rags to assume their duties.
  • Fulfill his or her responsibilities according to the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, and Workplace Hazardous Material Information System. This includes maintaining a clean, efficient, and safe work environment for staff, recognizing health and safety hazards, reporting incidents, as well as participating in fire safety activities.

HOUSEKEEPING AIDE.

ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE

Under the direction of the environmental services supervisor, is responsible for performing housekeeping department tasks in an efficient and co-operative manner, with due consideration for residents in the vicinity.

BACKGROUND/QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have completed at least grade 10 Must be able to follow oral and written instructions in the English language Needs visual acuity to ensure cleaning tasks performed to standards Some experience in an institutional housekeeping department is desirable

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities. Damp dusts all furniture in resident and office areas as per routine.
  • Cleans bath, washroom fixtures, and clean isolation rooms as per routine Cleans long stay, discharge beds, and does project disinfecting of beds.
  • Dusts and damp mops staircases and all non-carpet floor surfaces and base boards, on routine basis, as well as polish stainless. steel and chrome fittings.
  • Cleans. tops of windows, door frames and all wall hangings. Replaces paper supplies in respective dispensers.
  • Maintains janitor's closets in clean and tidy condition.
  • Removes and hangs drapes and privacy curtains when required
  • Operates floor Polishing machine and steam cleaning equipment, and strips, scrubs, spray buff, and refinishes all non-carpet floor surfaces in the facility.
  • Vacuums all carpet areas in the facility. Removes spots and stains from carpets and upholstery as they occur, and shampoos as required.
  • Assists in moving all furnishings and any personal belongings of residents, Washes walls, ceiling, lights, vents and insides of window, •
  • Picks-up and disposes garbage and incontinent pads from 'waste containers to central depot points daily.
  • Participates in the facility's ongoing fire prevention, pest control, occupational health and safety, and infection control programs as required.
  • Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, and Workplace Hazardous Material Information System. This includes recognizing health and safety hazards, reporting incidents, fulfilling responsibilities under the applicable• legislation, as well as participating in in-services and fire drills.
  • Works in accordance with safety regulations (e.g. WHMIS and Occupational. Health & Safety).
  • Performs duties outlined in work schedule of housekeeping aide as required, and other duties as assigned.
